Are the BOSE QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones one of the best NC headphones in the market?

BOSE QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

BOSE spent a lot of effort developing the Noise Cancelling technology. With the QuietComfort 15, they set a new level for the mid-range NC headphones. I used these for more than a year now and I am pretty happy with  the product. BOSE is always one of the leading brands committed in researching audio solutions to improve people’s lives, even if sometimes it seems like you are paying more for the brand than the quality.

Update: The QuietComfort15 is discontinued by the manufacturer, the NEW MODEL is the QuietComfort 25.

            The Shape

It has been a while since the QC15 has been released. Although new models are coming out, the BOSE QuietComfort 15 remains one of the best headphones with NC. The earpad are big enough to accommodate  your ear, even though the external shape is small and lightweight (192,8 gr – 6,8 oz). BOSE QuietComfort 15 profile I was wearing this headphones with sunglasses and I noticed that the paddings are smooth enough and will not press your glasses against the head. That’s really a good point for those who wear glasses. You can even change the pads if you want to or if they gets old. Storing the QC15 is quite easy, the earpads will swivel in so you can put them flat into their case.

            The Noise Cancelling

Let’s get straight to the point, if you are looking for headphones with NC features, the QC15 has one of the best Noise Cancelling available. They use two microphones for each earcups (one on the inside and one on the outside) and the result is that you get rid perfectly of all the low-noise. Sounds of fan, engines or far chit chatting will be a distant memory for you. BOSE QuietComfort 15 side If I have to give a vote, I will give a 8/10 for the Noise Cancelling. The only downside is that the anti-noise system works with a standard AAA battery. If the battery dies, the headphones become useless. The circuit goes off and you will not be able to listen to music even without NC. It means that you must have a spare battery with you otherwise they’ll not work even as a normal music headphones. Luckily the AAA battery is available almost everywhere.

            The Sound

Listening music with the QC15 is simply a pleasure. Due to the Noise Cancelling, you don’t have to put up the volume to compensate the ambient noise. The sound quality is acceptable. The bass is rich and satisfying, the mid and high are good and clear. BOSE QuietComfort 15 Case To be honest, with this headphones I discovered new sounds in my old music collection. Despite this I need to point that if you are an audiophiles, they will not enhance your high-end audio system. But the main goal of the QuietComfort 15 is the Noise Cancelling. If you are a traveller you should give them a try.

            The Extras

In the package you can find interesting things. Starting from the cables, you can find two different ones, with and without microphone. The one with microphone comes with a three button in-line remote. From here you can control the volume, skip tracks, play and stop music and answering/ignoring calls. BOSE QuietComfort 15 Extras Unfortunately this feature works great only on iOS devices, with Android smartphones (Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4) the volume is not adjustable. Using the headphones for calling gives you the sensation that the speaker is just beside you. In the other end the microphone on the cable does a great job, isolating your voice from the rest of the noises. In the packaging you will also find a high-quality case with pockets for spare batteries and cards, the two cables mentioned above and an airline adaptor.

            Pros & Cons

Hi – I wear glasses. I’m concerned about the NC being compromised by sound leaks. Some websites recommend the 20s for glasses wearers, but I dislike in-ear, the battery hanging just below etc. Thanks.

                Hi Mike,
wearing glasses can be a problem with some type of headphones. I read lots of reviews about the new model BOSE QC25 and all the people with glasses didn’t complain. Only one says after 8 hours had a bit sore where the headphones press the glasses. That’s all.
